Tanjore - The temple has a massive colonnaded prakara (corridor) and one of the largest Shiva lingas in India. It is also famed for the quality of its sculpture, as well as being the location that commissioned the brass Nataraja – Shiva as the lord of dance, in 11th century.Thanjavur is the 7th biggest city in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the largest temples in India and is an example of Dravidian architecture during the Chola period. Built by emperor Raja Raja Chola I and completed in 1010 AD, the temple turned 1000 years old in 2010. Tanjore palace - The Tanjore Palace or the Thanjavur Maratha Palace Complex, on the east main street, was initially constructed by Thanjavur Nayak kings. Within the palace complex exists a small bell tower and the renowned Saraswathi Mahal Library. The Thanjavur Maratha Palace Complex, known locally as Aranmanai, today is the official residence of the Bhonsle family that ruled Tanjore from 1674 to 1855. Thanjavur is the headquarters of the Thanjavur District. The city is an important agricultural centre located in the Cauvery Delta and is known as the Rice bowl of Tamil Nadu.
